The Vitamin C Guide

The 2026 Vitamin C Standards & Choosing Your Formulation

Not all Vitamin C is created equal! The "best" one for you depends entirely on your skin’s tolerance and your goals.

  • L-Ascorbic Acid (L-AA): The "OG" and most potent form. Look for concentrations between 10-20%. It’s the gold standard for collagen synthesis and fading stubborn dark spots, but it can be a little irritating for beginners.

  • THD Ascorbate: The tried and true for sensitive and dry skin. It’s oil-soluble, meaning it penetrates deeper and more comfortably than water-based acids. It’s also incredibly stable which means it won't turn brown in the bottle as quickly.

  • Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP): The best option for acne prone skin. Research shows SAP has mild antimicrobial properties, helping to keep breakouts at bay while it brightens.

What to Pair and What to Avoid

Vitamin C is a team player, but it has some "rivalries" you need to manage.

Vitamin C+ Vitamin E + Ferulic Acid: This Antioxidant Combo makes Vitamin C up to 8x more effective at neutralizing sun damage.

SPF +Vitamin C : This boosts your sunscreen’s effectiveness, acting as a secondary shield against UV rays.

The Importance of Timing

Use Vitamin C in the MORNING to defend against pollution and UV.

Save your RETINOIDS and AHA/BHA Exfoliants for the EVENING.

Mixing Vitamin C with Retinol in the same step can lead to a compromised skin barrier and redness. Say no to irritation!
